Joining the library

Joining the library

Joining Buckinghamshire Libraries is free.

Join with full membership

Simply provide proof of your name, current address and signature, such as a driving licence, allowance book or bank statement, and fill in a registration form.  If you are under 16 your parent or guardian will need to sign your registration form, and provide proof of their identity.

Join with quick membership

Full membership requires proof of name, address and signature, but if you don't have these to hand you can still join and borrow straight away by taking the Quick route. Quick membership allows you to borrow a smaller number of items immediately by showing just one form of identity. You can upgrade to full membership at a later date.  Please ask staff at your local library for details.

Join online today

If you are aged over 18 you can enter your details online and begin reserving items straight away. Take your proof of identity documents (as above) into any Buckinghamshire library within 4 weeks to collect your membership card.

You need to have collected your library card from your local library to use the eAudio download service as you need your card number and PIN to login.

Using your membership

You can use your membership card at any public library in Buckinghamshire, including mobile libraries.  You can return items to any of our libraries.

If your card is lost or stolen, let us know immediately so we can prevent it from being used. Please note that you are responsible for all items borrowed on your card.

What you can borrow

You can choose up to 20 items (maximum of 3 games) including:

  • Books can borrowed free, normally for three weeks
  • Audio books can be borrowed for three weeks
  • DVDs, CDs, magazines and games can be borrowed for one week

Books and magazines are free to borrow.  There are small hire charges for audio-visual items.
If you can't find what you're looking for on the shelves, ask the library staff.  We will try to obtain it for you, for a small reservation fee.
