A Renewing Vows ceremony offers you the chance to renew the vows you made at your marriage or civil partnership. You may like to do this to celebrate a special anniversary, reaffirm the commitment you made to each other, or you may have married abroad but would like a ceremony in this country.
A Commitment Ceremony gives couples an opportunity to celebrate their commitment to each other, without entering into a legally recognised marriage or civil partnership.
Planning your ceremony
A ceremony can be held in any of our registration offices or at one of our licensed venues throughout Buckinghamshire. We will also consider other venues, subject to health and safety requirements. An inspection fee is payable for this.
When you have decided and provisionally booked a date with the venue, please contact us to arrange a Celebrant to conduct your ceremony. Once you have done this you can then confirm your booking with the venue. We will then send you a Ceremony Pack will include an options form which you need to complete and return to us with the fee due, no later than three months before the date of your ceremony. If your ceremony date is within three months of booking, please return the form and payment immediately.
The Celebrant will contact you by phone a few days before your ceremony to discuss your options and how the ceremony will run. Alternatively, you may like to book an appointment to meet one of our Celebrants, bring in the options form and pay the fee. Again this needs to be no later than three months before the ceremony date. If your ceremony is booked within three months we will make an appointment for you to see one of our staff as soon as possible.
In accordance with our customer service standards, the Celebrant will arrive at a licensed venue 30 minutes before the ceremony start time. Please note, Renewing Vows and Commitment Ceremonies are celebratory and have no legal standing. Ceremonies are conducted by trained Registrars. At these ceremonies they are called Celebrants because they are not performing a statutory duty.
The ceremony will be unique to you. We will help you create a ceremony you can treasure in the years that follow.
You can make your ceremony personal to you, and may like to consider showing your commitment by:
- Reflecting on your life together
- Making heartfelt and meaningful vows to each other
- Exchanging new or additional rings
- Rededicating your original rings
- Exchanging gifts
- Speeches by guests
- The acknowledgement of your children
On the day of your ceremony please ensure that you arrive on time as we do not wish to rush your ceremony. In the event that you fail to keep the ceremony time you have booked, we reserve the right to postpone your ceremony. This cancellation policy applies to all ceremonies booked with us.
