Apply for a waste permit

1. Apply for a waste permit

Most visitors do not need a permit. Buckinghamshire Council uses a permit system to allow residents to visit the sites with large vehicles/trailers, in commercial vehicles and on foot. The permits help the Council manage the sites and deters businesses from disposing of their waste illegally.

All permits are free and you will need a permit if you are:

  • using a commercial vehicle such as  a pick up, van, minibus (8-11 seats) or flatbed truck
  • disposing of asbestos
  • using a trailer bigger than 0.9m x 1.2m
  • on foot

Rules for permits

  • Site staff can refuse entry to residents who need a permit but do not have one. Apply before you visit the recycling centre
  • All waste brought to the site must be from the permit holders home.
  • The householder who applied for the permit must be there when the waste is brought to the recycling centre.
  • Once the time limit has run out on your permit, you must renew before you visit again.
  • No business waste allowed to disposed of using a permit. Business customers can visit the business waste pages for more information.
  • Some vehicles are still banned from the sites, visit the Permits and site restriction page to find out more.

Trailer limits

All trailers larger than 1.2m x 0.9m require a permit. Trailers up to 1.8m x 1.2m are accepted at all sites, they must be no higher than 60cm. Larger trailers (up to 2.4m x 1.8m) are accepted at Aston Clinton, Amersham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and High Wycombe sites only.

2. Types of waste permits

Vehicle permit

Householders can take their own waste to a Household Recycling Centre, using a commercial vehicle. There is no limit on the amount of waste and the number of visits, but all waste must come from the permit holders home. The site rules and the Waste Acceptance and Access Policy must be followed at all times.

Valid for 31 days (up to 90 days on renewal). This permit is available to charities.

We can only accept small amounts of asbestos from householders.  Charges apply for the disposal of non-household asbestos.

The maximum amount accepted in any visit is three normal sized bin-liner bags or four sheets of approx 2m by 1m. This material needs to be double wrapped in bags and sealed with tape so that no dust can escape.

Valid for 3 visits during 12 months. This permit is not available to charities

3. Charity and not-for-profit organisations

Before applying for an e-permit or going to a Household Recycling Centre, all charities must contact the Environment Agency (EA) to complete a WMC2 .

Charities also include not-for-profit such as churches, youth clubs and town & parish councils.

You can view a guide online  or call 03708 506 506. This will enable the EA to decide whether to issue a certificate. Once these details have been verified, please request a waste permit, using these details.

Permits will only be given to addresses in Buckinghamshire, and they must show their licence or exemption when disposing of waste at a Buckinghamshire household recycling centre.

All charities have to pay to dispose of non-household waste, visit the Charges for non-household waste page for prices

Charities cannot dispose of any of the following items:

  • asbestos
  • hazardous waste
  • lead acid (vehicle) batteries
  • chemicals
  • any electrical items e.g. fridges/freezers, TVs & monitors, small appliances
  • light bulbs or fluorescent tube lights
  • gas bottles
  • cooking or engine oil
  • tyres

Charities are permitted to visit our recycling centres Monday to Friday only.
