Household recycling weekday closures

Aylesbury (Rabans Lane), Burnham and Chesham Household Recycling Centre are now closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 April 2019.

The other six sites remain open seven days a week, and opening times will be unaffected.

Why were these sites chosen?

The three sites affected are all quite close to other sites. Users can use a different site if they wish to visit a recycling centre on a Wednesday or Thursday.

The nearest alternative sites are also better equipped to deal with extra visitors on those weekdays.

Why were these days chosen?

Wednesdays and Thursdays are quieter than other days, especially compared to the weekends.

During the public consultation residents were asked what days they would prefer to keep sites open. Whilst there was no strong preference for any particular day, there was a preference to close on consecutive days.

We chose Wednesday and Thursday for service operational reasons.

What happens if I arrive with waste on a Wednesday or Thursday?

The sites will have large signs on the outside gates to promote other options for residents. This includes using a different site or visiting on another day.

Any waste left outside the gates when a site is closed is classed as fly tipping. It will be investigated by the county council's Waste Enforcement Team and could result in a fine and/or a criminal conviction.
