About the project

The A355 Beaconsfield Eastern Relief Road is one of six major highways projects which Buckinghamshire’s Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) with the purpose to improve the Council’s strategic transport network.

In March 2014, Buckinghamshire Thames Valley Local Economic Partnership (BTVLEP), together with Buckinghamshire County Council, submitted its Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) to the Department for Transport.

The SEP outlined a number of transport and economic development focus areas for Buckinghamshire, to help support growth throughout the county.

Working together, Buckinghamshire County Council and the BTVLEP was successful in securing £44 million of funding through the Local Growth Fund (LGF) to take forward large scale infrastructure schemes, including transport and highways improvements . One of these schemes was the A355 Beaconsfield Eastern Relief Road which was awarded £6.05m in 2016.
The objectives of this project are to:

  • Reduce congestion in Beaconsfield particularly on the A355 and the London End roundabout, which will see a 50% reduction in traffic
  • Improve north south connectivity in the County
  • To provide a more suitable route for HS2 construction traffic, that would otherwise have to go via the London End roundabout

Planning consent for the scheme was granted in September 2017. The detailed design has been completed and going through final technical approval; planning condition discharge currently ongoing and is expected to be completed by mid-July 2018.

Main construction works for the A355 Beaconsfield Eastern Relief Road are programmed to begin in July 2018 with construction expected to be completed by June 2019.

The southern section of the relief road is delivered by Inland Homes as part of their Wilton Park housing development.

Consultation

The project team has kept in touch with the public through a number of consultations during the course of the project. A Public meeting was held at Beaconsfield Town Hall in Oct 2015 looking primarily at alignment options, and another in April 2016, looking at the outline design.

There will be further public engagement during the construction phase to ensure that everyone with an interest in the project is well informed.
