About the project

Work on resurfacing the five-mile Stoke Hammond and Western Linslade Bypasses (A4146) will start on Monday 13 August.

The £4.5 million investment in renewing the five-mile dual carriageway surface will take around eight weeks.

The work involves:

  • removing the entire surface course which has a number of surface defects
  • replacing some of the lower layers in areas where investigations have found a structural weakness

Updates

Progress with work will depend on weather conditions.

Updates will be posted on this page and also on social media - Twitter @buckscc and @tfbalerts

Traffic diversions

Traffic from the Aylesbury direction on the A418 will divert from the A4146 roundabout at the Wing end of the bypass, via the Leighton Buzzard bypass, A505, and A5 to meet the A4146 again at Kelly's Kitchen roundabout just outside Bletchley.

Traffic from the Milton Keynes and Bletchley directions will divert on to the A5 at Kelly's Kitchen roundabout, via the A505 and Leighton Buzzard bypass to join the A418 at the roundabout near Wing.

Diversion signs will be put up on all the approaches to the Stoke Hammond and Western Linslade bypasses. Every effort will be made to minimise delays, but some disruption can be expected.

Works schedule - subject to favourable weather conditions

The bypass will reopen at 6 am on Monday 8 October. For safety reasons, access on to the bypass (northbound/southbound) at the Chelmscote Roundabout junction will remain closed until then.

There will be narrower approaches and restricted circulation on the A418 Wing roundabout during nights in the final week of resurfacing work on Stoke Hammond Bypass, from 7 pm to 6 am until Friday 5 October, and again between 7 pm on Friday 5 October and 6 am on Monday 8 October.

Until Friday 5 October Southbound (towards Wing) carriageway will be closed completely for surfacing teams to replace surface material and reinstate road markings and studs. Northbound (towards Milton Keynes) carriageway will be open.

Weekend 5 October to 8 October (7 pm Friday to 6 am Monday) – bypass closed in both directions for resurfacing, road markings and studs, lighting and clear-up.

Monday 8 October 6 am- bypass reopens.

These dates could change if weather conditions delay work.
