3. Internet Safety Training
ThinkUKnow is a national education and awareness programme developed by Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) on internet safety.
Programmes provide age appropriate information about online risks and guidance to help young people keep themselves safe online. All information emphasises the positive aspects of the internet, whilst highlighting the risks and how to stay in control of them.
Duration: 3 to 4 hours
What we offer: The half day CEOP ThinkUKnow training Course is aimed at professionals who work with young people. The training will teach delegates how to deliver TUK products to young people as well as increasing their understanding of many of the most popular applications young people are using in the online and mobile environment. The course also covers many issues that children and young people face online and signpost other initiatives and organisations for help and support.
At the end of the course, professionals who attend will be able to deliver CEOP's ThinkUKnow programme to children and young people using ThinkUKnow resources.
Duration: 1 hour
What we offer: An interactive presentation for parents containing award winning awareness films, animation and statistics.
The presentation covers new and emerging technologies that children and young people use, the potential risks they may face and easy technical and lifestyle solutions which parents can employ to help keep their children safe.
E-Safety Ambassador course
Duration: 6 to 8 sessions
What we offer: A training package for up to 16 young people resulting in a nationally recognised Accreditation.
The course is designed to enable young people to present the e-safety message to other year groups within the school, or to partner schools in the area such as feeder primaries.
The role of the Ambassador is to:
- understand the issues, risks and consequences of using the internet
- deliver an e-safety message to other young people
- advise young people if asked a question regarding e-safety
- direct young people to resources and information around e-safety
The course covers a wide range of topics including:
- Healthy / Unhealthy relationships
- Confidence, Self Esteem and Resilience and how this relates to safety
- What is e-safety?
- Grooming, Cyberbullying, Gaming, Sexting and Safety in all these areas
- Safeguarding and disclosures
- Creating Group Presentations
- What to do next in school
Exploitation prevention lesson plan for 11 to 16 year olds
Duration: 1 or 2 sessions
What we offer: Using the film "Exploited - Child Sexual Exploitation prevention" we follow the story of a teenage girl who is used by her "boyfriend". The session is delivered by professionals in structured sessions in schools.
It is a preventative education resource designed for use with young people aged 12 and over. it aims to give young people new understanding and skills to help them stay safe from Child Sexual Exploitation.
These sessions should be embedded in a progressive Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum as part of Sex and Relationships education.
Duration: 30 minutes
What we offer: A presentation for 5 to 7 year olds, 8 to 11 year olds or 11 to 16 year olds.
During the presentation, we use a film that addresses issues young people face online and demonstrates common offender behaviour. The film is supported by activity sheets making the session an ideal way to get young people talking about their online behaviour in a session tailored to the appropriate age group.
We can include sign language and subtitles if required.
Workshop for 7 to 11 year olds
Duration: 1 to 2 hours
What we offer: In this session we explore and understand particular aspects of internet safety, for example:
- what personal information is
- inappropriate images and sharing
- digital footsteps
Workshops are interactive and fun with relevant videos and activities
Lesson plans for 5 to 7 year olds
Duration: 6 sessions
What we offer:
These 6 sessions are based around a series of engaging cartoons featuring Hector ‘The Protector’ and his friends. They focus on how Hector the dolphin and his underwater friends stay safe online. Lesson plans have been built around each episode and include activity sheets.
Lessons are interactive and imaginative highlighting internet risks and how young people can protect themselves online. All information highlights the positive aspects of the internet whilst highlighting the risks and how to stay in control of them.
