My Social Care Journey
7. I have a Child Protection Plan
Initial Child Protection Conference
An Initial Child Protection Conference brings together family members, the child where appropriate, and those professionals most involved with the child and family.
The meeting is a chance to talk about how to make things better for the child. This might include discussing problems:
- at school
- at home
- with people they hang around with
Children will have the chance to share their thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Not only will they be listened to you, but also helped to find the support they need. At the end of this meeting a Child Protection Plan will be created to help support them and their family.
The child and family will be assigned their own social worker who will provide home visits at least once every 2 weeks.
Reviewing Child Protection Conference
After 3 months, the child and their family will go to a Child Protection Conference. This is a chance to review the plan and discuss how it has been working.
All the professionals who have been involved in the plan will be there. Together they will decide whether changes need to be made to the initial plan.
If the professionals at the meeting decide that the family situation has not improved, they may decide that living at home might not be best for the child. In this case, living with someone else who could help and support their needs may be in the best interest.
If a child would like to express what they are feeling before one of these meetings, they can share this with the professionals by using the Mind Of My Own app.
