Your county needs you!

The men and women of our Armed Forces give their whole lives to serving their country, protecting our nation and its people.

Now is the time for you to show your appreciation and thanks for their hard work and commitment by sacrificing just a few hours of your time to help us ensure this year’s Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Armed Forces Day is the best one yet.

This year’s event, which takes place at Aylesbury Rugby Club on Saturday 17 June from 12 to 7pm, is a fun family day out which aims to celebrate the local community’s support for veterans, serving personnel, reservists, cadets and their families.

The day is packed full with live music and entertainment, aerial displays, fairground rides, stalls and much more but its success is down in large part to the group of volunteers who give up their time for free to help out.

This year we once again need people to come forward to help out in whatever way they can. Volunteers are needed for tasks including set up and clear up of the site, parking supervision, providing support at the entrance gate, selling programmes, supporting stall holders and many other duties.

Anyone aged over 14 can volunteer but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. In return for offering up your time you will gain free entry, get a voucher entitling you to a free meal and a limited edition t-shirt to wear on the day that is then yours to keep.

Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire said: “In previous years we have been lucky enough to have had plenty of willing volunteers come forward to help out. We would like to call out once again to everyone who is able to come and do their bit.

“Not only can you show your support for our Armed Forces, you will enjoy a fantastic day out, meeting new people, taking part in new activities and experiences, it cannot be beaten.”

One person who knows all about the experience of volunteering for Armed Forces Day is 20 year old Tyrone Weeks from Aylesbury who volunteered for the event four years ago. He said: “Armed Forces Day is a great chance for everyone to show their support and gratitude for all the men and women in the Armed Forces. It is such an amazing experience to be able to volunteer at such an event.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a volunteer. I got to meet lots of different people and made new friends. You also get to experience what is going on during the day. Some of the highlights for me were the Red Arrows fly past and the local cadets show.”

If you would like to volunteer for this year’s event please get in touch by emailing: or call 01296 395000 and ask for the Armed Forces Day team. More information can be found on our website:
