Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member welcomed the launch of the East West Rail Company by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling yesterday (Thursday December 14).

"This is great news for Buckinghamshire. We've spent the past 20 years campaigning for east-west rail links, and we've put our money where our mouth is by contributing to the cost. This is a milestone on the journey to a much-needed strategic transport link," he said.

"East West Rail takes a whole swathe of Buckinghamshire out of the railway backwater, and not only means an essential link between Oxford and Cambridge, but also provides an excellent service from Aylesbury to Milton Keynes to get cars off the roads and give our residents new jobs and leisure opportunities."
