For a two-week period beginning 11 May, Buckinghamshire Libraries users will be able to borrow the eBook, Whisky from Small Glasses by Denzil Meyrick (Birlinn), from buckinghamshire.overdrive.com and participate in a country-wide version of a local Book Club.
About the book
Whisky from Small Glasses is a compelling novel infused with intrigue and dark humour. Set in a small Scottish rural town, this crime story is a well-woven tale of a detective trying to solve a murder investigation that turns more deadly than he could possibly imagine. Meyrick’s first in a series of books featuring D.C.I. Jim Daley, he takes you on twists and turns of love, betrayal, fear and death in this thriller.
Author, Denzil Meyrick, says,
"When writing this first book, I was anxious to represent the dark humour deployed by the men and women who populate our emergency services. It’s a pressure release, if you like; a way for those who witness the darker side of humanity that we hardly glimpse—and often recoil from when we do—to cope with their working lives. I’m so pleased that Whisky from Small Glasses has been chosen as the subject of one of your discussions. I really hope you’ll enjoy it, and go on to read more of the adventures of DCI Jim Daley."
DCI Jim Daley is sent from the city to investigate a murder after the body of a woman is washed up on an idyllic beach on the West Coast of Scotland. Far away from urban resources, he finds himself a stranger in a close-knit community.
Love, betrayal, fear and death stalk the small town, as Daley investigates a case that becomes more deadly than he could possibly imagine, in this compelling novel infused with intrigue and dark humour.
