Buckinghamshire Libraries will be supporting Dementia Action Week (21-27 May 2018). 

Dementia Action Week asks everyone to take actions big and small to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

Memory Information Session

Join us for a session run by Alzheimer's society for people worried about their memory.

An opportunity for people of all ages to meet socially and share their stories of the past.

Buckinghamshire Libraries have a number of resources to support carers and people with the condition including:

The Reminiscence Collection

The Reminiscence Collection can help families and carers to remember the past and share experiences.

Items are available to anybody with a library card and are suitable for a wide range of uses.

The collection includes:-

  • Board and card games to stimulate mind and memory
  • Activities to encourage use of fine motor skills
  • Table-top and chair games designed for people with mobility difficulties
  • Tactile and visual activities suitable for people living with dementia or learning difficulties
  • Photos and scrapbooks of different time periods
  • DVD’s on the years 1931-1989
  • Suitcases of historical memorabilia (1930s, 1950s, WW2, Victorians)
  • Jigsaw puzzles/jigsticks
  • Memory boxes (toys, household objects)
  • Giant floor games

Do you have dementia or know someone living with the condition?

The dementia booklist is a collection of adult and children’s books which support people with dementia and their carers by raising awareness and increasing understanding of the condition.

The books in this collection can be reserved both online and in any Buckinghamshire Library. You can also collect your reservations from any Buckinghamshire Library.

Pictures to Share

These books cover a variety of themes and are designed to spark conversation and memories. Pictures to Share contain mostly pictures and a small amount of text and are ideal for family, friends and carers to use and develop a sense of togetherness with someone who is finding communication difficult.
