Service Update: Reopening Local Studies


We are pleased to announce that access to the secondary sources in our Local Studies area will resume on Tue 31st August.  Arrangements for accessing the Archives are not affected.  


Bookings can now be made via; please note that our telephone service remains only partially operational, and is not a reliable way of contacting us. We ask that you read the below before making your booking.  


The sources in Local Studies include:

-Most comprehensive collection of books and reports about Buckinghamshire

-Historic newspapers, including the Bucks Herald, mostly on microfilm

-Free access to Ancestry via our computers

-Family History transcripts and other resources

-Printed maps including OS and GOAD

-Historic local directories


Opening hours for both Local Studies and Archives are:

10:00am – 12:30pm and 1.30pm – 4pm Tuesday to Thursday

10.00am – 12:00pm and 1pm – 3pm first Saturday of the month


Pre-booking is now essential to access sources in Local Studies; bookings are specific to the sources you wish to access, you must book  one or multiple of the following options:

 - Microfilm Reader

 - Computer

 - Books

 - Desk space for printed maps (these must be ordered at least 3 days in advance)


With the exception of our printed maps, you must make your booking at least 24 hours in advance of your preferred date. 


You can book up to two sessions at a time.  This is due to our commitment to retaining social distancing measures for now. 


Please note that our coffee room remains closed to the public.  Sanitiser for your hands and equipment will be available.
