Upcoming changes to document production in the Archives Searchroom

Image of deedsLast summer we ran a pilot of some possible changes to the way we run our public services in the Archives. We're grateful to those of you who took part and fed back to us about what worked and what didn't. Broadly you liked the ability to order documents in advance but you preferred the ability to order documents on demand rather than wait for specified production slots.  For our part, we like the ability to predict demand levels in the searchroom more efficiently, be able to provide a more consistent level of service to all visitors regardless of how busy we are and to provide our staff with the opportunity to manage their workload more effectively.

Taking your feedback on board and bearing in mind our staffing levels we have revised the way the searchroom will work. From the beginning of March therefore:

  • You can order up to six items in advance to be ready for your arrival.
  • You can order four more items at a time in the searchroom on demand, but production may take up to an hour.
  • We ask you to book a seat.
  • Let us know at least 24 hours in advance of your visit what you'd like by telephone (01296 382587) or by email (archives@buckscc.gov.uk)

We hope these changes will provide a better experience for you. If you come and see us in March, let us know what you think.
