We are pleased to announce the launch of Buckinghamshire’s Heritage Portal

The portal is the new online version of Buckinghamshire’s Historic Environment Record (HER), which has been maintained by the archaeology service at Buckinghamshire Council (and formerly the County Council) for nearly 50 years.
What’s new?
Some of the information held in the HER was previously made publicly available through Unlocking Buckinghamshire’s Past. This information has now been refreshed and updated with a brand new heritage portal, which links directly to historic mapping, monument records, photos and documents held in the HER. The new portal is more compatible with new technology and can therefore be accessed from home or on mobile devices and is all free to view. There is also a blog so we can keep you up to date on recent discoveries, and members of the public will be able to post comments about individual sites through the monument records.
Through the portal you can see details of all the monuments and historic buildings in the county. You can search the map, type in a place name, or simply look up your parish history. There are also teaching resources on the portal for key stages 2 and 3, perfect for online learning, and there is a handy timeline, which outlines the prehistoric and historic periods in Buckinghamshire.
So take a look and explore your local history and archaeology…there is a wealth of information to discover.
