Road safety

We successfully met the targets set by the Government for 2010. These were:
- A 40% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road collisions.
- A 50% reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured.
- A 10% reduction in the slight casualty rate.
The government has published a new Strategic Framework for Road Safety and has asked local authorities to assess and set their own road safety priorities.

We assess our priorities by analysing collision data collected by Thames Valley Police at the scene of a collision and investigating road safety concerns identified by the local community.
We aim to reduce the number of casualties occurring on the road through a targeted approach including:
- Engineering works
- Education, training and publicity
- Speed limit reductions
- Community Speedwatch initiatives
In 2010 there were 23 deaths and 198 serious injuries in Buckinghamshire.
