Traffic calming fund
Previously called the Forbearance Fund, we set this fund up to help Parish/Town councils pay for local traffic calming measures, enabling the costs to be spread over a period of up to three years.
£250,000 has been made available to fund schemes costing more than £1,000 but less than £50,000.
Why is the fund needed?
Our funds are limited and although we have used our powers to introduce schemes in a large number of areas in the county over recent years, the demand for schemes far outweighs available resources. As a result, our resources are targeted on those sites which have a persistent injury accident record,in line with Central Government guidelines.
At the same time, the funds available to local councils are also limited, which has restricted their ability to respond to local concerns about traffic. The intention, therefore, is to increase the opportunities for providing traffic calming schemes throughout the county through partnerships.
What measures can be funded?
Most traffic management measures can be funded subject to the financial limitations mentioned overleaf and the proposals being formally approved by Buckinghamshire County Council.
How to apply
A protocol giving full details of the Traffic Calming Fund and the procedures to be followed is available from Transport for Buckinghamshire.
Legal basis for the Traffic Calming Fund?
The fund has been put forward as a result of the powers given to local councils under the Local Government and Rating Act 1997. It has been approved by the National Association of Local Councils, the Buckinghamshire Association of Local Councils and the relevant auditors.
