Computer facilities for visually impaired customers

All our public computers have the standard Microsoft Windows 2000 accessibility features that include a screen magnifier facility. Use of these computers will be charged at the standard rate.

We have computers with additional facilities for customers with vision impairment in ten of our libraries. These normally have larger screens and scanners plus special additional software designed to assist customers with vision impairment to use the Internet and other computer packages. These special VIP computers are located in the libraries listed at the bottom of this page.  Use the links to find out more about each library.

Aylesbury Study Centre also has WinBraille software and an Index Everest embosser. This enables text to be translated into Braille and then embossed (printed out) in Braille. We have worked closely with the Aylesbury and District Access for All Group and Bucks Vision in developing these facilities. This has been a valuable experience for all concerned and we have made many new friends.

Vision impaired persons (VIPs) will be able to use these special computers free of charge.

All staff have had disability awareness training and in addition, a small team of people have had more specialised training in the use of the new software. This will ensure that prospective users get all the assistance they need when they visit us. To make sure that one of our trained people is on hand, call the number below to make a booking.
