Social care for adults

adult social care

We help people in need, to live as independently as possible. If you are planning to make an enquiry on behalf of someone else please check they are happy for you to do so.

We may be able to help if you or someone you know cannot look after themselves properly because of:

  • physical disability
  • mental health problems
  • learning disability
  • sight or hearing loss
  • dementia
  • old age
  • serious illness

This could be regular help with daily living, such as:

  • washing
  • dressing
  • meals
  • laundry
  • making it easier to live at home
  • providing information about residential or nursing home care

We may carry out an assessment to see if you need extra care. We cannot provide services for everyone and have to give priority to those people who are in greatest need. If we can't offer you a service we will give you information about other organisations that might be able to help you. We charge for some of our services.

There are some things we don't provide such as help with general housing matters, housing benefit or council tax. For advice on these please contact your district council.

In an emergency

In the event of a serious emergency during evenings or weekends you can contact the Emergency Duty Team for advice on 01494 675802.
