Road safety

Think Road Safety

Each year almost 3,500 people are killed and around 320,000 are injured on Britain's roads. Many could have been avoided if road users had taken more care.

The government has set targets to address these issues and to achieve a substantial improvement in road safety by 2010. The targets are as follows

  • A 40% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road collisions.
  • A 50% reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured
  • A 10% reduction in the slight casualty rate.
  • In 2005 there were 40 people killed on Buckinghamshire's roads and 285 seriously injured. Of those killed 8 (20%) were young drivers.

We aim to reduce the number of casualties occurring on the road through a variety of targeted campaigns.
