You don't need a permit to dispose of household waste if you are driving a private car or MPV with up to 7 seats.

You do need a permit if you are using a commercial vehicle, are on foot, or using a trailer larger than 1.2m x 0.9m. The vehicle must have no more than four wheels and must not be fitted with a mechanical device.

You also need a permit to dispose of asbestos from all vehicles.

Permits are free to Buckinghamshire (and Slough) residents. Please allow 3 working days for delivery. 

Permit types

DIY

Allows 1 visit to the nominated site within the 31 day period, with up to 6 items of DIY waste eg a door, a bath, a kitchen unit, a sack (up to 100 litres volume) of soil / rubble / tiles / other DIY waste. 

General

Allows non-recyclable household waste (eg mattress, carpet, mixed general household waste). This permit lasts for 1 month on initial application and 3 months on renewal.

Recyclable

Allows recyclable household waste (eg cardboard, paper, green garden waste). This permit lasts for 1 month on initial application and 3 months on renewal.

Trailer size restrictions

All sites accept trailers up to 1.8m x 1.2m excluding drawbar and no higher than 60cm with a cover.
Larger trailers up to 2.4m x 1.8m excluding drawbar and no higher than 60cm with a cover are accepted at Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and High Heavens sites only.

Hertfordshire residents

Residents from the Tring and West of Tring area are also able to use the Aston Clinton HWRC.

If you have not had a permit before, you must call Hertfordshire County Council in advance on 0300 1234051 to register your intention to visit the Aston Clinton site.

Charities

All charities need to pre-register by writing on headed paper stating the Charity Commission Registration Number.

Using a company to dispose of your waste

There are companies who, for a fee will dispose of your waste for you. You must make sure the waste is disposed of legally.
