The Children Act 2004 (passed in 15 November 2004) enshrines in law children's well being (as defined by the five Every Child Matters outcomes).
The first Children's Commissioner for England was appointed in March 2005 and took up post in July 2005. The Commissioner is an independent champion for children and young people's views.
Since September 2005 Ofsted expects schools to demonstrate how they are contributing to the five national outcomes for children:-
Achieving a school travel plan enables your school to demonstrate its contribution toward these outcomes.
