Speed

Speeding kills

Speeding and speed limits are emotive subjects on which everyone has an opinion. Most people want speed limits in their own roads yet they drive at speed past other people's houses. There are even times when they get caught speeding in their own streets.

Speed kills

If a car travelling at 40mph collides with a pedestrian, that person is likely to be killed.

At 30mph, there is a 50 percent chance of survival.

At 20mph, most people survive.

We work closely with Thames Valley Police (TVP) (the enforcement authority) to deal with speed issues. Invariably, there are insufficient resources to deal with the many requests both authorities receive in connection with speeding. Priority is given to sites where there are casualty reduction benefits.

If you think there is a speeding problem in your road or area, please contact your local council who may already have raised the issue with us or  TVP.
