Private access markings
There has been an increasing demand by the public for road markings to overcome access difficulties to their properties.
Waiting restrictions, with supporting signs, lines and a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) enabling police enforcement to take place, will be considered when a review of waiting restrictions for an area, is undertaken. The introduction of a TRO is a time consuming and staff intensive process and currently, this type of work is being prioritised in terms of potential casualty accident reduction benefit.
Advisory access protection road markings, not enforceable by the police, will be considered in appropriate circumstances. These can be provided at relatively short notice (8-10 weeks depending on the contractor’s workload) and although contravening them is not an offence itself, experience has shown they are respected by the majority of drivers and can provide substantial access benefits. The markings will be kept to an absolute minimum (covering only the extent of the dropped kerbs) to prevent creating additional parking problems for neighbours.
