Travel Choice is our own travel plan

We have been leading the way in travel planning since 1999 with our own travel plan, Travel Choice
We couldn't expect businesses and schools to take an interest without first addressing our own impact on road congestion and also the environment. 

Our travel plan measures include:

• Promotion of cycling and walking by providing showers, cycle storage, lockers and a salary sacrifice scheme
• Car share scheme and preferential car share car park spaces
• Encouraging public transport use by providing discounts on buses and trains
• A home working policy
• Pool bicycles
• Lots of promotional activities

The staff enjoy being members of the travel choice club and a recent survey of staff benefits highlighted travel choice as the 3rd highest benefit to working for the County Council.

Our approach has seen us advising other local authorities on their travel plan development and we are considered a Centre of Excellence for Travel Plan development with many of our processes adopted nationally. This success has led to published case studies in Smarter Choice and The Essential Guide to Travel Planning. Our car use figures on the daily journey to work have reduced from 71% in 2000 to 49% in 2009.
