Stone to Aylesbury

Stone to Aylesbury

For all those living in Stone, cycling to work has never been easier with the launch of the new Stone to Aylesbury cycle route. If you are tired of being stuck in traffic, looking to save money, or wanting to develop a healthier lifestyle, we have the route to your targets.

Stone residents have been consulted about what would entice them to use their cycle route instead of always getting in their car.  Many of the residents completed a questionnaire and then a consultation group was held in order to really understand their opinions.

The Stone to Aylesbury cycleway will take you all the way from Stone (1/2 hr) or Fairford Leys (10 mins) into the centre of town. A high-quality, wide cycleway will keep you safely away from cars and traffic, allowing you a clear route to your destination. Once in the town centre there are a number of places where you can park your bike and know it will be kept safe until your return.

The launch

The Stone to Aylesbury cycle route was officially opened on 22nd September 2004 as part of European Mobility Week and National 'In town without my car' day.

Councillor Margaret Aston the local member for Stone and Haddenham and the Mayor of Aylesbury Denise Summers were at the Multicultural Centre in Friarscroft Way Aylesbury at the end of the route to welcome all those who cycled into work or school.

A large bikers breakfast was also available for all those who cycled. Children from Bearbrook School joined in and cycled into Aylesbury to try out the new route and to show how easy and enjoyable it is for everyone to cycle.

The cycle route from Stone to the centre of Aylesbury, also links to the estates of Fairford Leys, Prebendal Farm and Southcourt providing an alternative and healthier way into town for each of these areas.

Why throw away money on that gym membership when an easy 10-15 minute cycle ride each day will do you just as much good and its free! Imagine the savings you could make by not having to pay for petrol or parking even one day a week over the course of the year.
