Chesham and Amersham Transport Study
The Chesham and Amersham Transport Strategy was first conceived in 2003 with the aim to consider and tackle the significant transport challenges facing the urban area of Chesham and Amersham. Its aims were to encourage safer and more sustainable use of the transport network while preserving the natural environment across the area.
With the development of the Local Transport Plan (2006-2011) in 2005/06, changing transport priorities and strategies emerged. The Chesham and Amersham Transport Strategy subsequently developed into a number of work strands, which fed into the emerging Chesham and Amersham Transport Area Action Plan. See the Chesham and Amersham Transport Strategy diagram below for more information.
In January 2007 Jacobs were commissioned by Buckinghamshire County Council to undertake an independent feasibility stage transport study within the urban area, namely the Chesham and Amersham Transport Study (CATS) 2007. The study focused on the issues of congestion and safety that had not previously been addressed, in the following areas:
- The A416 linking Amersham and Chesham
- Chesham and Amersham town centres
- Sections of the A413, A355 and A404 which fall within the study area.
The aims of the study were to identify transport problems in the areas above and present feasibility proposals to address these problems.
This report presents the methodology and findings of the Chesham and Amersham Transport Study 2007 carried out by Jacobs.
Buckinghamshire County Council have reviewed the findings and recommendations of the Chesham and Amersham Transport Study (CATS) 2007. This review identifies which proposals meet the objectives and priorities set out in our Second Local Transport Plan and the proposed way forward. Our response is outlined in Chapter 6 of the report.
