Current status
The new speed limits for most of of Area 9 have been put in place and have been operational from 1st September 2008.
A summary of the new speed limits is available to download at the bottom of this page.
A full Report , which summarises how the speed limits were decided , was approved on 18th July 2008.This can be seen at http://democracy.buckscc.gov.uk/mgDelegatedDecisions.asp?bcr=1&DS=0&K=1
The new speed limits for the Burnham Beeches perimeter roads are not yet installed. This is because Department for Transport authorisation has been sought for approval to use on-road speed limit markings, instead of repeater signs on posts. A decision is expected by the end of October and the 40mph speed limit on these roads will be signed or marked out soon afterwards.
Public consultation for a 40mph speed limit for the A40 between Beaconsfield and Holtspur commenced on 31 October 2008 and finished on 12th December 2008
Implementing the changes
Once the legal documents, the Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO), are confirmed and publicised, the speed limit will be shown by signs and by markings on the road surface at the beginning of the new speed limits.
The police will be able to enforce the new speed limits once all legally required signs and markings are in place
After the changes are in place
We will monitor and review the effects of the changes in the speed limits put in place in September 2008. (and the Burnham Beeches limit) If the A40 proposed limit goes ahead, then this will also be monitored closely.
- We measured the speeds, amount of traffic and numbers of crashes before the change. These will be measured again and the results compared
- We will hear the views of those affected by the changes
- We will seek the views of district, town and parish councils
- You will be able to complete questionnaires to let us know what you think.
- An independent market research company will carry out a random telephone survey in the area.
