Current status
New speed limits were put into this area in March 2007.
We monitored the effects of the changes:
- We measured the speeds, amount of traffic and numbers of crashes before and after the changes.
- We heard the views of those affected by the changes.
- We sought the views of district, town and parish councils
- An independent market research company has carried out a random telephone survey of 200 people in the area for feedback. This showed the majority of people agreed with the new limits:
o 66 % agreed with all the new 30mph speed limits
o 66 % agreed with all the new 40mph speed limits
o 65 % agreed with all the new 50mph speed limits - We have looked at requests for further changes to speed limits and carried out site visits within this area. (see 'Public feedback on limits installed March 2007' at the bottom of this page) As a result, some speed limit changes are were proposed.
- Public consultation on these proposed changes took place from 25th March to 6th May 2009
- The proposed limits are available to download at the bottom of this page, together with a summary of why the changes are being proposed and also the formal legal Notices which list all the proposed speed limit changes
Deciding the changes
The responses from the public consultation are being collated.
A report on the proposed changes will be written and presented to our cabinet member for approval. It is expected that the report will be published in November 2011. Once approved the new speed limits will be implemented. (probably February 2012)
A summary of the views expressed and the approved recommendation will be available in the Cabinet Member Reports.
Implementing the changes
Once the legal documents for the Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) are confirmed and publicised, the new speed limits will be shown by signs and markings on the road surface at the beginning of a lower speed limit.
The police will be able to enforce the new speed limits once all legally required signs and markings are in place.
After we make the changes
We will continue to monitor and review the effects of the changes.
