Current status
Following monitoring and consultation a range of new and revised speed limits were introduced in the winter of 2005, during 2006 post implementation monitoring was carried out including a telephone survey of 300 residents.
The speed limit review working group met in 2007 to review the monitoring data and feedback and to agree additional potential changes to the existing speed limits. These have been prepared as draft speed limit orders and have been consulted upon during June/July 2008.
The speed limit review working group met in July 2008 and have asked that due to the level of feedback that Stoney Lane, Pound Lane and the road through the settlement of Heath End be considered for a reduction from National Speed Limit to 40mph. Therefore in order that this can be included in the speed limit order for area 2, additional formal consultation will take place on these lengths of road week commencing 25/08/08 and the closing date for objections to or support for the proposals together with the grounds on which they are made must be sent in writing by 9 October 2008.
Notices will been placed on site and a copy of the Order and maps showing the lengths of road referred to, together with the Statement of Reasons for proposing to make the Order may be inspected during normal office hours at County Hall, Aylesbury and during normal opening hours at the following: -
- Chesham Library, Elgiva Lane, Chesham
- Wendover Library, High Street, Wendover
- Chiltern and South Bucks Area Office, King George V Road, Amersham
What happens next
A key decision report on the outcome of the consultations has now been prepared, considered and approved by the Cabinet Member for Transportation, and authorisation is being sought from the Department for Transport to allow the use of the on-carriageway speed limit repeater signs, its anticipated that the final proposed speed limit orders will be re-advertised early April 2009 and if there are no formal objections the orders will be made, this will be followed by implementation of the speed limits on site. (late April early May 2009)
What you can do
Objections to or support for the proposals together with the grounds on which they are made must be sent in writing to Anne Davies by the closing date to be confirmed when the orders are published, marked for the attention of Laura Witney, Legal Assistant, Legal and Democratic Services, County Hall, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, HP20 1UA.
