For the rest of area 13:-

he working group of county/district councillors, police and council officers met on 7th October 2010 to discuss the several hundred responses  from the public consultation and make final recommendations for change.

A report on the proposed changes including a summary of the views expressed at consultation has been approved by the Cabinet Member for Transport and can be read in the Cabinet Member Reports.

Once approved the new speed limits will be implemented. This is expected to take place during Autumn 2011. (implementation is later than originally planned due to budget cuts and other pressures on resources.)

What happened before this?

Public consultation on proposed changes to speed limits took place between the beginning of April and mid May 2010 Parish, Town and District councils and groups representing different types of road user were formally contacted to take part in the consultation. The consultation documents can be seen at the botom of this page.

Large notices were placed alongside roads within the area, to make drivers aware of the proposed changes and give them the opportunity to make comments

Implementing the changes

Once the legal documents, (the Traffic Regulation Orders or ‘TROs’), are confirmed and publicised, the speed limit will be shown by the required signs. There will also be markings on the road surface for most roads where a speed limit changes from a higher to a lower speed limit.

The police will be able to enforce the new speed limits once all legally required signs and markings are in place.

After the changes are in place

We will continue to monitor and review the effects of the changes.

We measured the speeds, amount of traffic and numbers of crashes before the change. These will be measured again and the results compared.

We will provide vehicle activated signs on a temporary basis at suitable sites, to help raise drivers' awareness of the changes and adjust to the new speed limits.
