Accessibility

Accessibility is about the ease of reaching particular services or activities.

Community Accessibility Planning is a process of finding out how easy or difficult it is for people in an area to access the most important services and activities: jobs, healthcare services, education, shopping, childcare and leisure. It is about the local community itself participating in identifying local problems, putting forward solutions and developing action plans.

Accessibility planning involves looking at the availability of services and seeking, where possible, to improve their distribution and location - in other words, bringing them closer to people. Non-transport solutions may include new facilities, siting some services in one place, mobile or home delivery services, and access to information technology.

Community Accessibility Partnerships are being set up in nine areas throughout Buckinghamshire over the next four years, in line with the Council's Local Transport Plan (2006-2011).

Who needs to be part of Community Accessibility Partnerships?

  • Members of local community organisations, including local residents associations and organisations representing young people, older people, women, and people with various types of disability
  • Elected local government representatives in the area from parish, district and county councils
  • Organisations in the public, voluntary and commercial sectors that provide services to local residents.
