Milton Keynes and South Midlands growth area

The growth area consists of Aylesbury Vale District, Milton Keynes, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. It's one of several growth areas identified to help deliver high levels of housing and economic development over the long-term in the greater South East identified in the Government's 2003 Sustainable Communities Plan.

A Sub-regional Strategy for the Milton Keynes and South Midlands (MKSM) growth area was adopted by the Government in 2005. The Milton Keynes and Aylesbury Vale elements have been revisited in the South East Plan.

Six locations have been identified for major expansion. One of these is Aylesbury Town, where 16,800 homes and supporting employment opportunities will be provided between 2006 and 2026. Aylesbury Vale District Council will decide the location for the homes in its Local Development Framework . We are working with the District Council to ensure new developments have the right infrastructure and facilities eg roads and schools.

Aylesbury Vale Advantage (AVA) is a group brought together to deliver the growth. It consists of the County Council, Aylesbury Vale District Council, SEEDA, English Partnerships and other major stakeholders. It functions as a Local Delivery Vehicle (LDV), one of six in the MKSM area.
