Shortenills Environmental Education Trust
The Shortenills Environmental Education Trust (SEET) is a registered charity. It was formed in November 1999 after work by the staff at the centre, GE Healthcare and Buckinghamshire County Council to ensure the long-term security and development of environmental education at the Centre.
It is chaired by a representative from GE Healthcare and meets at least once a term. Its aims are to secure the long term future of the Centre and the expansion of its curricular activities. Our business plan is to:
- Improve the residential experience of those using the facilities.
- Enhance the learning that takes place for an extended range of visitors from educational establishments and the local community.
- Secure financial support for development projects such as the installation of solar power, creating ponds and raised beds and providing wildlife cameras

GE Healthcare
GE Healthcare (formerly Amersham plc) is now part of a multinational medical science company that has had their headquarters and production site in the Amersham area since the 1940s. Through its ‘SET to Help’ scheme it aids the scientific, engineering and technical education in local schools and has education as one of its priorities for community engagement.
Shortenills Centre and the SEET are very grateful for the support of GE Healthcare. It is one of the partners of the Centre, allocating staff time to assist the Trust and providing a financial contribution. It also aids particular scientific projects, such as the installation of the photovoltaic canopy.
Funding
Income comes mainly from customers and Buckinghamshire County Council.
To increase funds we are approaching:
The centre’s customers
Local businesses
Local and national grant providers
Local and national government funds
We have in the past received funds from the RMC Environmental Trust and the Onyx Environmental Trust to generate education aimed at waste minimization and sustainability. A donation from the Charles Curry Trust has joined more modest contributions from local residents and businesses and all help provide the extras that our budget cannot afford but enhance the experience of every visitor.
