High Wycombe music centre

Buckinghamshire Music Service teachers visit schools in the High Wycombe area. We complement this teaching by offering a carefully structured range of ensembles at the Music Centre. Young people have great fun making music with others of similar age and ability. Around 700 young people from the age of six to nineteen visit us each week.

We offer:

A variety of orchestras, wind bands and big bands
Six classical guitar ensembles
Four recorder ensembles
Two choirs
Chamber music groups
General musicianship and theory classes

Concerts and festivals

We promote a large number of concerts including at least two each year at the Wycombe Swan Theatre. In 1993, 2000 and 2005 we gave gala concerts in the Royal Albert Hall in London. Many of the ensembles and choirs have distinguished themselves in national competitions. In April 2008, the Concert Band was presented with a Gold Award in the National Concert Band Festival in Warwick. Our musicians are frequent visitors at the National Festival of Music for Youth and in recent years, the Clarinet Choir and the Guitar Consort have received Outstanding Performance Awards. Groups from the Music Centre have undertaken foreign tours and in summer 2008, five senior ensembles gave a series of concerts in Northern Italy. In June 2010, the Music Centre will again present a Gala concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

Buying an instrument

Students who learn an instrument in school or at the Music Centre with a Music Service teacher can purchase an instrument at a reduced cost. We have discounts with suppliers and the scheme is exempt from VAT. Typically, we can get your child's instruments for 20-40% less than the retail price.
