Types of Governor

Governing Body membership is a combination of appointed and elected governors.  No formal qualifications are needed to become a governor, but you do need a commitment to the education system within Buckinghamshire, the ability to work in a team, and a desire to make a positive contribution to your local community.  The number and type of each governor will vary but each governing body will compromise between 9 and 20 governors.  The responsibility for the actions and decisions of the governing body lies with the whole governing body not with individual members.

Individual governors are appointed or elected by specified bodies or groups but they are not delegates and are free to vote according to their own wishes.

The usual term of office for any category of governor is four years although some schools may decide on a shorter term of office for one or more categories of governors.
