Cressex future - pathfinder project

Work Commences
Head teacher David Hood starts the work

The government’s Building Schools for the Future programme is the biggest capital investment for schools for the past 50 years. Every secondary school in England will be rebuilt or renewed by 2020 to cope with changing teaching and learning methods. The programme is phased, each Local Authority is allowed to rebuild 1 school to the new standards as a pathfinder. We selected Cressex School, the project received approval from the government in March 2007. The total cost of the project is estimated at £31 million. The school will be ready to open for September 2010.

The Programme Board (councillors, officers, school staff, school governors and representatives from HBG, the building contractors) are overseeing the rebuild, from its design, through the planning process as well as the site and project management of the scheme. The rebuild will also provide an opportunity to enhance school curriculum activities, enabling pupils to develop construction skills.

The design meets all guidelines for environmental design and reduced carbon emissions.
