Berryfields major development update

The Berryfields Major Development Area on the outskirts of Aylesbury, which will eventually see the construction of 3,000 new homes, is now well underway. The development started on 5 July 2010 with the beginning of the first section of the Northern Loop Road and the initial phase of housing.
The construction of the Northern Loop Road, the road heading North from the Aylesbury Vale Parkway roundabout, and foundations for the first phase of houses has progressed well and next week work to build a new cycleway and install utilities will start. These works will affect the A41 Bicester Road. They involve the installation of a cycleway from the Aylesbury Vale Parkway roundabout to Berryfields Lane, a Toucan crossing just East of the roundabout and the installation of new water and gas pipes and fibre optic cables to serve the new houses. These works will take place from 13 September 2010 and are expected to be completed by the end of November 2010.
Works will affect the A41 during off peak hours (0930-1530) when the A41 will be reduced to a single lane to allow the work to be undertaken safely. Two way temporary traffic signals will be in operation at these times and some delays are likely. The number of days when the signals are required will be kept to a minimum but the work needs to be carried out whilst ensuring the safety of road users and the operatives. Work in the vicinity of Berryfields Lane will need 3 way temporary traffic signals which will potentially lead to longer delays, however, these works are planned for week commencing 25 October 2010 which is Half Term in an effort to minimise the inconvenience. Transport for Buckinghamshire apologises for any delays and inconvenience and seeks the co-operation of all road users during these works.
Valerie Letheren, Cabinet Member for Transportation said,
"It is good to see the work at Berryfields starting after it has been on hold for a couple of years. The cycleway and Toucan crossing will provide the first part of a link for residents to cycle from Berryfields to Aylesbury and also for Berryfields residents to cross the A41 to walk or cycle to Aylesbury Vale Parkway. The works are likely to cause some delays but I hope that people understand that the temporary traffic management arrangements are for the safety of the workers and all road users."
