- It was opened on the 23 November 1996 by Terence Hardiman, the Demon Headmaster.
- The building was originally an old coach house, and Matilda's Library was the coachman's living room.
- The idea for the gallery came about after a gift from Roald Dahl's wife, Felicity.
- It has appeared on all major British TV channels.
- It uses Roald Dahl's stories to introduce visitors to museum objects.
- It attracts visitors from all over the country, and from around the world.
- Quentin Blake drew the characters especially for the Gallery logo.
- It has won two major awards for education, and is fully used by schools during term time.
- Half of the £600,000 it cost to create the Gallery came from the National Lottery.
- It is the only one of its kind in the world!
