The Buckinghamshire Archaeological Society (BAS) was founded in 1847 and is the senior body in the county in the fields of Archaeology, Architecture, Local History. The society also has an active specialist section for Natural History.

The Journal

Every member of the society  receives a copy of the annual journal, Records of Bucks. The journal publishes reports of archaeological excavations, local and industrial history, natural history, and all aspects of times past in Buckinghamshire.

The Library

The society's library, containing a comprehensive collection of books and pamphlets on Buckinghamshire is housed in the museum. There are books and journals on local history, archaeology, natural history and architecture. Open to the public on Wednesdays, it is also available to members with a readers ticket, which is issued by the librarian, whenever the museum is open. The readers ticket also entitles you to a 10% discount in the museum shop, and for special exhibition tickets.

The Newsletter

Spring and autumn newsletters are sent to all members. These contain information on lectures and summer events. Members are invited to contribute with articles and items of interest.

Visits and lectures

Throughout the year there is a wide variety of lectures at the County Museum on Saturday afternoons, and summer visits are organised to local historic sites, churches, houses and gardens.

Under the auspices of the Bucks Local History Network, a major day meeting is held each year in late September or early October.

Natural history and geology

Each month, there are also field trips or lectures on many wildlife and countryside subjects, organised by the Society's Natural History section.
