Special needs

We have 12 special schools.

Resources and provision for pupils with special needs are organised according to the Code of Practice's graduated approach. The framework aims to match carefully the extent of a child's special educational needs with appropriate resources and support/provision. It also ensures those pupils with learning difficulties or marked aptitudes are able to enjoy full access to the curriculum.

We're committed to providing education for children with special needs in mainstream schools whenever possible. We aim to meet the needs of pupils with hearing or physical impairment, language difficulties and those with social communication difficulties, both at primary and secondary level.

We carefully review referrals for statutory assessment in order that appropriate special needs provision may be planned and developed.
