Primary schools

Teaching children at the start of their education is one of the profession's greatest challenges and probably one of its greatest satisfactions.

At a time of their lives when children first start to develop those abilities and interests that will make them truly individual, we aim to provide the structures and support, which enable teachers to bring out those individual talents to the full.

Primary education in Buckinghamshire is organised in nursery, infant, junior or combined schools with transfer to secondary school at the age of 11+. Each school is part of a cluster or liaison group of schools.

Through these groups schools work together to respond to countrywide initiatives and foster partnership working. Some groups have developed very imaginative curriculum initiatives for themselves. There are many other network groups that share and develop excellent practice.

We have:

  • 2 nursery schools
  • 53 infant schools
  • 21 junior schools
  • 108 combined schools

Our primary schools vary in size and architectural design, and also in terms of the local community which they serve. They all offer a range of professional opportunities which are both challenging and exciting.
