Early Years and Childcare
We provide information and advice on services and activities for children aged 0-19.
We support the quality of early years education and the development of childcare provision under the National Childcare Initiative set by Sure Start.
Buckinghamshire Children's Information Service (BCIS)
All local authorities provide information to families through a Family Information Service. Your local service is Buckinghamshire Children’s Information Service (BCIS) and it offers a free telephone service (from UK landlines) providing confidential, impartial and up to date advice and information on a wide range of issues to support Buckinghamshire parents of children aged 0-19.
BCIS has links with numerous services involved in children and childcare, both in the council and local organisations. It is a great starting point for any enquiry relating to your family, childcare or careers working with children. BCIS will provide the information you need or signpost you to appropriate services as required.
BCIS can provide a wide range of information and advice on:
- Childcare – including Ofsted registered childminders
- Leisure activities in your local area including holiday play schemes and parent and toddler groups
- Financial support for families
- Parenting classes, advice and support groups
- SureStart Children’s Centres in your local area
- A range of issues such as bullying, healthy eating and child safety
And for those working or interested in the childcare profession:
- Careers in childcare
- Information on setting up a childcare facility
