Neighbourhood policing

Neighbourhood policing (or management) is a way of providing a tailor made service in your area to tackle crime and other issues that stop you from feeling safe. Police officers and other staff will work with other agencies, i.e. your local council, as well as members of the community, to identify the issues most important to you and your sense of security and find ways of tackling them.

In Buckinghamshire there are dedicated police staff in many areas who you can work with to tackle the issues you have identified, including anti-social behaviour. This type of policing enables the police to act, not only on the national priorities such as burglary and drugs, but on the issues that are directly relevant to the community, e.g. graffiti or speeding, for example.

Neighbourhood policing will only be successful if communities get involved and communicate their issues to the police.

Police Community Support Officers

A Police Community Support officer (PCSO) is employed by the police to assist and support operational police officers by providing an additional uniformed presence on the streets. They are seen nationally as a response to the demise of authority figures (eg park wardens) and the public perception of an increase in crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.
