Process of being approved as adopters

The 14 step process to becoming an adoptive parent

What happens:

  1. Initial enquiry either by phone or letter
  2. Information sent out with details of information session
  3. Attend information session
  4. Interview with social worker
  5. Statutory checks made (CRB, social services, medicals)
  6. Attend preparation group (4 days)
  7. Interview with 2 social workers
  8. Assessment started with social worker (usually 6 - 8 visits)
  9. Referees visited by social worker
  10. Form F report completed
  11. Applicants read and comment on Form F
  12. Social worker presents report to adoption panel
  13. Adoption panel makes recommendation to agency
  14. Agency decision
