Ecology and development

flower

Protected species, habitats and sites need to be taken into consideration when planning any development. We need information on protected animals and plants that may be affected by the development and how this can be avoided.

If protected animals or plants are present, we need to be satisfied that any potential impacts are avoided, mitigated or compensated for.

Pre-application stage

Working with us early in the process means we can identify if habitat and species surveys needed. Some surveys can only be carried out at certain times of year so advice at pre-application stage can help avoid delays.

A request form is available below for pre-application advice. Depending on the nature and scale of the proposal there may be a charge for this service.

We will need sufficient information from you before the planning application can be validated (in accordance with the Local List).

Please read the Biodiversity Planning Guidance below to see when ecological surveys are required as part of a planning application.
