The future of day services

Day Services are undergoing a three year programme of modernisation.

Most of its 22 day centres will be replaced with six Day Opportunities Centres in Buckingham, Burnham, High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and Amersham or Chesham. They will be more available to the community while providing vulnerable adults who need a building-based service a secure place to receive a day service that meets all their needs.

People who have attended a day centre but who do not necessarily need to be in a building all day will be able to choose from a wide range of services and activities that are more community based.

For younger adults these might be opportunities to learn new skills, do volunteer work, or take part in activities that add to their quality of life. Older people will also have opportunities to meet and socialise with their friends and peers and take part in activities that encourage a more independent lifestyle.

We are developing services to help people identify these more community based activities, including an accredited Brokerage service which assists people with planning their support.

We also have a programme to develop the marketplace so that organisations and voluntary groups involved can develop the activities and services they provide for vulnerable people.
