We run a number of small staffed heath homes for people with learning disabilities which involves Registered Care or Supported Living services.

Registered Care

A registered care home is a home that is set up especially for people who share a similar disability. It will have 24 hour staffing, which will include either sleep-in night carer support or waking night support, depending on your need.

The majority of your welfare benefits go directly towards paying for the building, food, bills and care with you receiving a small amount to pay for personal items such as clothing, social and recreational activities.

Registered care homes have to meet specific minimum standards, which are regulated by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). These standards include things such as bedroom size and en-suite bathrooms, as well as a minimum amount of space where there are communal lounges.

Other benefits of these homes are that you will have few major responsibilities and always be around others.

Supported Living

In Supported Living you have more choice over how you live, where you live, who supports you and how. This involves discussing issues with you and the people around you. You will also have support over your own money and household. Your individual needs are considered and met such as whether you would like to live with others.

You would not be excluded from Supported Living because of your disability. Services have to find out what will it take to support you to live the way that you want. You can also receive support from flat-mates, support tenants and good neighbours.

Supported Living can and does provide 24 hour support, including sleeping night care, or waking night care if you have more complex needs.
