Legal requirements

You must be:

• At least 18 years old on the day of nomination
• A British citizen or the citizen of a Commonwealth country or the Republic of Ireland or another European Union State
• Registered as a local government elector within the local area or have occupied for 12 months preceding the day of nomination, as owner or tenant, land in that area, or have had your principal or only place of work there for that period, or have lived in that are for that period (whether on a Register of Electors or
  not).
• You must not be employed by the Council for which you are standing or by any Local Authority in a politically restricted post
• You must not be the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order
• You must not within the 5 years up to election day have been convicted of an offence and received a sentence of imprisonment of 3 months or more
• You must not be disqualified under any legislation relating to corrupt or illegal practices in elections
