Nationality checking service

The nationality checking service is a partnership between the Home Office Border and Immigration Agency and Local Authorities in England and Wales. And is part of the process for people to become a British citizen.

Buckinghamshire Registration Service offer an optional service for anyone applying for British nationality. Completed British nationality applications will be checked for accuracy and all necessary documents will be photocopied, certified and sent alongside to support the application. This means that those using the service can keep their original, valuable documents such as passports and marriage certificates rather than sending them to the Home Office.

Benefits of the service

Applications to the Home Office that are correctly completed and have all the correct documents tend to be processed more quickly and original documents can be retained. The application is checked for accuracy and sent by secure post direct to the Home Office.

How to book an appointment

Please contact us on 01296 382604 to make an appointment. When booking an appointment you will need to pay in full the applicable fee - please see below. Payment is by credit or debit card only.

You have up to 7 days from booking and paying your fee to cancel and receive a full refund. Should you wish to rearrange your appointment within this cancellation period you can do so without any additional charge. If you cancel your appointment with less than 48 hours notice, you will have to pay a second full fee if you rearrange it.

If you need to rearrange your appointment you can do this up to 48 hours before your appointment, date and time. If you rearrange your appointment with less than 48 hours notice, when you rebook you will have to pay another full fee.

If you do not attend the fee will not be refunded.

Please ensure you attend on time, allowing enough time for parking and traffic delays, otherwise you may not be seen and will lose your fee.

The Home Office fees for nationality applications do not include fees charged by Buckinghamshire County Council for the use of the nationality checking service.

Fees chargeable from 1.1.2010 - 31.3.2010 (including VAT at 17.5%):
Adult - £50
Child (under 18 years) - £25

Fees chargeable from 1.4.2010 (including VAT at 17.5%):
Adult - £60
Child (under 18 years) - £35

These fees may by subject to change without prior notification.

Express service

We are, where possible, able to offer an express service for applications. This means you may be able to book an appointment within a shorter timescale than we are able to offer for standard appointments. If you are interested in this service please say when you call to book your appointment. The fees for an express appointment are double the fee charges shown above.
